Overview of Medical Mission Trips
International Medical Relief promotes the well-being of underdeveloped communities through a comprehensive continuum of services provided on medical mission trips. International Medical Relief trips contribute to the world’s communities by improving the overall health, wellness and medical relief of the people. On these trips medical mission teams provide diagnosis and treatment, partnerships with local medical relief designees, conduct community medical and wellness training, and foster principles of medical relief prevention. Non-medical volunteers participate as support staff for the medical mission trips.
Mission
of IMR
To provide access to medical care in underserved and vulnerable communities around the world to improve the health, wellness, medical relief and quality of life of those populations most in need. This is done through short term medical mission trips where volunteers give their time and services for the medical relief of the developing world.
Summary of IMR & Medical Mission Trips
International Medical Relief (IMR) is a nonprofit organization that provides medical relief and care to under-served and vulnerable people around the world through medical mission trips. International Medical Relief recruits qualified medical mission teams and offers short-term medical trips for volunteer doctors, dentists and other health care professionals as well as non-medical volunteers to conduct medical clinics in areas where medical care is limited or difficult to obtain. International Medical Relief was founded on the belief that knowledge of basic health facts and access to medical relief and care should be shared by all nations, regions, and classes. Our work is undertaken to include some of the millions of people who have been excluded from today’s healthcare systems worldwide. Through partnerships with local US medical professionals and the entire international host community (with regard to education, diagnosis and treatment) a valuable sharing of knowledge occurs on the trips. This empowers people to provide for their own health and for each other.
Our goal is for the medical mission trips to establish long term relationships that allow us to revisit each of the villages in which we work for a period of several years until the community can maintain their medical status independently. On medical mission trips volunteers are able to experience and share in a new culture. We aim to make a multi-year commitment for the benefit of the communities that we serve on our trips. Each visit brings more progress and success in the overall community relief and wellness allowing the medical mission trips to provide more technical care with each new trip (starting with basic prevention and leading to surgical care). With our medical mission team, support staff, and the health care supplies and medicines that we will bring with us on each medical mission trip, we can see hundreds of patients each clinic day.
International Medical Relief provides medical mission trips to disaster relief areas. Previously, IMR conducted medical trips into Louisiana and Mississippi as well as trips into Indonesia for the Tsunami. IMR currently has medical mission trips departing for the devastated regions of China and Myanmar. For more information on how to participate with IMR on one of the disaster relief medical mission trips please email us.
International Medical Relief provides medical mission trips for several types of medical care specialists. We can accommodate surgical teams on trips that have a background in plastic, general, oral or ophthalmic surgery. These trips are designed in specific locations.
